I am a Human Resource Executive with 20 years of responsible progressive experience in human resource management as well as operations management, training & development, resource and budget forecasting, organizational development, and employee relations. I am currently the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for a corporate and commercial business law firm, Adriaans Attorneys.
In this role I am mandated to realize the firm’s vision by promoting the firm’s culture, core values and principles, thereby ensuring the best interest of the firm and its human capital is maintained and upheld. This includes the management of the firm’s Business Support Services (BSS) department and its operations within Human Resource and Talent Management business unit, Marketing and Business Development Business unit, Financial Accounting business unit as well as the Facilities, ITC and Infrastructure business unit. Since 2022, I have successfully commenced my own Human Resource Consultancy, practicing under the name and style of Melissa Lynn Cunningham (MLC) HR Consultancy Pty Ltd. This work requires leading and managing a portfolio of versatile clientele with unique people needs with cross-functional participation and collaboration from all areas of the business and business partners.
I also served as the National Human Resource Manager for one of South Africa’s leading law firms, where I was responsible for the HR services to 1200 employees who work in various areas of law including Corporate & Commercial, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property and Property Law, to name a few.
In every HR role, I provided strategic business partnering to the senior leadership team as well as manage a group of HR professionals responsible for supporting the managers and their employees. I hold a bachelor’s degree in management of human resources specializing in Industrial psychology and organizational behaviour. I am an active member of the St Johns Anglican church. My husband, Ashley, and I have two wonderful daughters. They are Ella (10,) and Emelee (7).
